Fruits Basket anime

Tooru Honda is a 16-year old girl living in a tent in the nearby mountain woods. Her father died when she was very young and her mother had just recently died in a car accident. Not wanting to put her grandfather (on her father's side) out while his house is being renovated, she told him she would stay with friends so no one knows she's living in a tent. In the meantime, she goes to school and works her part-time job on a cleaning crew so that she can pay her high school tuition (in Japan, high school is like college in the US).

On her way to school one morning, she comes across a house where her very popular (bishounen) classmate Souma Yuki lives. He's surprised to hear she's living in the mountains, and he and his cousin soon learn the truth. As an act of kindness, they offer to allow her to stay with them and in exchange she will clean and cook for them. Thus begins Honda's journey into the mysterious world that comprises House Souma, a house that is very powerful, very rich, and very cursed. Various members of the Souma family change into one of 12 Chinese Junnishi animals (13 counting the cat Kyo-kun) when hugged by someone of the opposite sex. Can Honda help the members of the Souma family deal with this curse? Will the Yuki Fan Club ever get rid of Honda for living with Yuki? Will Honda's friends learn the secrets of the Souma family or can Honda protect those secrets? What is Souma Akito-san's motive for allowing an outsider in? What will he ultimately do with Honda-san?
